Vík, Skaftafell, and the Glacier Lagoon
Day three in Iceland. After our second day, I wasn't sure it could get much more beautiful but it totally did. Maybe it was because we had perfect weather or maybe because there was so much variety in the things we saw. All I now is that when I edit photos from the trip, they just seem to get better and better.
Day three started at a horse farm near Skógar where we were staying at an airbnb between the mountains and the ocean. The first two pictures were taken within a few hundred meters of the house. We made our way south to Dyrhólaey where we got a view of the black sands beach, the arch, and the lighthouse. We drove a little further down the road and stopped at Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach and we got to see the Puffins who were living on the cliffs there. Our next stop was the little town of Vík where we stopped at the grocery store for sandwiches and visited the church.
After Vík, we drove for another hour or so to one of our favorite spots of the day: Fjaðrárgljúfur. Don't ask me how its pronounced but it was a really beautiful slot canyon with bright blue water running through.
After this quick stop, we made our way on to Skaftafell and Vatnajökull National Park. This is where one of the most photographed waterfalls in Iceland lives: Svartifoss. Which is easily recognized by the broken pillars of basalt that make up the falls. We also hiked over and stopped at the glacier near by.
Our last stop of the day was the Glacier Lagoon. It was absolutely beautiful! We arrived as the sun was starting to set and that gave us the perfect light to take a bunch of pictures. This was definitely one of my favorite spots in all of Iceland and I'd highly recommend making the drive out there to see it.
Well, thats pretty much it for day three, day four should be out in the next couple of days.
